Although the virus is affecting many of us in so many different ways it's the first time in a long time (at least in my lifetime) that no matter what you have, be it all the riches or all the rags it has made us all wear the same plastic gloves, cover our mouths and behave like beasts at the supermarkets. It truly is the biggest leveller. (okay, those with money can pay for the test but thats all they are doing too is self isolating).
Which brings me on to why I came to this epiphany; like many of us a few days ago I was consumed with how it was going to impact my business, my lively hood, the economy; basically just thinking about myself and did not really give a thought to how this has impacted others on a far larger scale, people have lost loved ones!! I mean why I was I panicking over some money I had lost and the fact that I have lots of products that are stuck in Belgium are all temporary. I think because we have lived in a society where the future is always certain we have forgotten to live in the moment and just deal, appreciate and be happy in that moment. Right now I have what I always wanted really, I am sitting in my Flat just done yoga, drinking tea in my lounge wear and have time to do all the things that I claim that I don't have time to do....so I am just going to do exactly that. Release the worries of the future for now and live in the moment.
Of course, I am still going to have little panics now and again but for the most part I am going to breath and let it go (and also do a dance for every order, review, comment, post I receive) - Thank you to you all x
I have always been a firm believer in supporting small businesses. The town I come from, still does (although times are changing) thrive on people supporting the small business owner.
Growing up in a family who had their own business and witnessing how hard they worked cemented a desire in me to always support and shop small. The desire has increased since becoming a business owner myself.
Each small business owner while I am sure it can look glamorous either have second jobs (ME), work every hour under the sun, are a bit of a 'jack of all trades', but most of all remember and cherish each and every order, comment, email and review sent.
So this Christmas I wanted to spread the small business cheer and introduce you to other small businesses who work so hard and have some of THE BEST items:
If you or any of those who are on your Christmas list are not digging the snow white skin look, then head over to Tanyawhitebits, this fake tan has rave reviews and the perfect gift for a tanaholic! The owner of the magic is Shoned, a fellow femalfounder who truly is an inspiration!
Prettylittleprops is the perfect stocking filler or main gift for the accessory obsessed fashonista! Another female-founder (there may be a theme occurring here) who is a school friend and I am truly proud of her success!
If you or the family have a sweet tooth the Ridiciolously rich by Alana Brownies are to die for (I do not have much of a sweet tooth myself) but my cravings for these are too much!
Who doesn't love a candle? With lots to choose from these days why not pay lilslittleloves a visit. They are natural, soy wax candles and hand poured in Wales too!
If you are looking for something both handmade and unique look at Alines Handmade- great for hair accessories and children. She is truly inspirational and you will just fall in love with her work!
I could share hundreds with you, and I am sure while you read this small businesses are coming to mind.. I will aim to add to this and/or tell you exactly what I am buying for those on my Christmas list.
In my next post I will be introducing you to some of my favourite unique independant gift shops.
Lets support each other this Christmas.
